Job Description

The Electronics Lab Automation Engineer is responsible for creating and maintaining custom software to automate the control and data acquisition of lab equipment for radiation testing of electronics for space applications. This role requires strong understanding of power electronics hardware and test equipment, along with experience creating the software to automate and remotely interact with the equipment. This role also requires supporting off-site radiation testing (TID & SEE) for space products and components, as well as the ability to replicate electronics lab test setups remotely with a high degree of repeatability. 

•    Supporting various Design Engineers working across a wide range of DC/DC converter products for space applications, all with different testing requirements.
•    Assembling custom test setups using standard electronics lab equipment that can be easily/reliably set up at off-site test facilities.
•    Create custom software and GUIs in Python to remotely control and record data from electronics lab equipment at high speeds.
•    Creating custom PCBs and test fixtures for radiation testing, as well as working with third party test houses to prepare samples for testing.
•    Create documentation for setups & software, including manuals & user guides.
•    Troubleshooting and optimizing lab bench setups, including minimizing measurement error, and implementing proper grounding practices.
•    Creating and maintaining component source control documents to specify the required radiation testing and parametric results for multiple programs.
•    Reviewing post-radiation test data & reports, and communicating with outside test facilities.
•    Occasional travel to off-site radiation test facilities for component & system testing of DC/DC converters for space applications.
 

Education / Qualifications

•    Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or equivalent (MSEE a plus)
•    3+ years experience in Power Electronics Design and/or Electronics Lab Automation.
•    Thorough knowledge & experience with lab equipment used in the characterization and design of power supplies and systems (oscilloscopes, DMMs, Network Analyzers, loads, sources, etc.)
•    Experience creating custom software & GUIs using Python, and experience working with the protocols used by standard laboratory equipment.
•    Excellent understanding of analog circuit test/measurement, and an analytical approach to engineering required.
•    Experience with radiation testing (SEE & TID) of electronic systems & components is a plus.
•    Experience with electronic component characterization (BJTs, MOSFETs, GaN transistors, Integrated Circuits, etc).
•    Troubleshooting skills with basic power systems a plus.
•    Experience with component lot control/management is a plus.
•    Familiarity with modeling and design tools such as Altium, SPICE, Simplis, and Simetrix.
•    Excellent written and verbal communication skills, comfortable presenting at a technical level to other Engineers.
•    Familiarity with Altium or other CAD tools; Excel, Power Point, Word, and other office tools.

Compensation Data

Salary Range $80,400 - $100,600
Please note: This range is based on our current market driven pay structures. Individual salaries are determined based upon a variety of factors including but not limited to, a candidates overall qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience as well as company internal equity.
