Job Summary
In this newly added role, the Engineering Technician – Automation is responsible for supporting Automation Engineering in the development, build, installation of manufacturing equipment and tooling with an emphasis on mechatronics.
Job Description
• Takes a lead role in installing both single pieces of equipment and whole manufacturing lines. To include:
- Works with equipment and line lay out drawings.
- Conducts mechanical assembly, drilling and tapping, and alignment
- Installs and integrates control items such as sensor and scanners.
- Installs and automation systems, PLCs and required electrical enclosures.
• Ensure and provide that the system installation is following the given schematics, electrical and process pipe line diagrams.
• Provides trouble shooting during startup of equipment
• Provides trouble shooting for PLC, I/O, sensor, industrial camera, scanner, motion controller connections.
• Provides mechanical assembly on any in house design and build automation work cells.
• Assembly of machine building aluminum extrusion profile systems (T-Slots or Sigma Profiles)
• Participates in continuous improvement projects to enhance product performance and reliability.
• Follows safety protocols and ensure compliance with industry standards.
• Proactively assist mechanical, pneumatic and electrical repairs during automation systems installation, startup and during system improvement projects.
• Support engineering with mechanical, electrical or software updates to maintain system precision and minimize scrap rates.
• Maintains and updates wiring diagrams, PLC logic records, project documentation and other automation system documentation, including configuration files.
• Keep track of recurring issues and gather data using diagnostic and monitoring tools.
• Work closely with engineering to implement design improvements and share supportive information.
• Provide training for maintenance technicians and machine operators.
• Educate shop-floor teams on automation equipment installed, and trains them for operational safety.
• Verify that the automation systems are producing in quality tolerances and quality standards.
Education / Qualifications
• Associates degree in Automation, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering or Technology related field combined with +2 years hands on experience.
• Technical high School graduate with emphasis on Robotics and Automation, Mechatronics, Electrical Technologies or related field , +3 years of experience in a high volume manufacturing environment with exposure to automated equipment
• Experience working with mechanical assembly equipment and automated equipment.
• Experience working with electrical measurement, testing tools like multi-meter. Will train on higher level electronics.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills with strong attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
• Ability to use CAD drawing programs (i.e. SolidWorks) at viewing and modification level is required. Experience for detailed and efficient, parts and assembly drawing in SolidWorks is a plus.
• Experience in PLC & HMI installation, configuration is a plus.
• Experience in barcode readers, smart cameras is a plus (i.e. Cognex, Keyence, Sick etc.)

Compensation Data
Salary Range:
$58,000 - $75,000
Please note: This range is based on our current market driven pay structures. Individual salaries are determined based upon a variety of factors including but not limited to, a candidates overall qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience as well as company internal equity.
