Job Summary

The Manager of Automation Engineering will lead the concept development, design, implementation of automation equipment and related tools supporting the factory enhancing operational efficiency and productivity.  This role requires extensive experience in automation engineering, strong leadership skills, and an understanding of industry best practices.  Will lead a highly motivated Automation Engineering team focused on producing industry leading advanced power component solutions used in industrial, hyperscalers, AI, aerospace, defense, and automotive industries.  

Job Description

•    Lead the automation team in the design, development and facilitation of automated assembly, test, and inspection equipment along with related tooling to ensure the highest standards of product quality and reliability while supporting needed manufacturing capacity and cost targets.
•    Provide team leadership overseeing multiple automation and tooling projects simultaneously, ensuring they are budgeted, completed on time, and to quality standards.
•    Mentor team of automation staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
•    Works closely with Technical Operations and the factory to identify opportunities for process improvements and drives changes to enhance automation flow, efficiency and effectiveness.
•    Spear head investigation of new automation technologies and systems to enhance manufacturing capabilities.
•    Ensure all automation activities comply with Vicor requirements, industry standards and regulatory requirements. 

Education / Qualifications

•    Bachelor’s degree in Automation Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering or a related field.  
•    Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in automation engineering, with at least 2 years in a leadership capacity.
•    Experience with robot cell development including new applications from floor up.  Thorough understanding of control systems.  Specific knowledge with Adept or Mitsubishi robots a plus.
•    Vision system development experience using systems such as Cognex Insight, Vision Pro and VIDI
•    Knowledge and experience with electrical controls system specification and design.  Capable of leading team with conceptualization of control systems, development of schematics, development machine communications, etc. 
•    Experience with PLC and related programming a plus.
•    Mechanical machine design experience using tools such as SolidWorks or 3D CAD software a plus.
•    Proficiency in data analysis and fundamental understanding of Six Sigma tools related to process capability and controls.
•    Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills and the ability to present in front of all levels of management

Compensation Data

Salary Range:

$140,000 - $160,000
