Job Description
The Principal Product Development Engineer will be involved in the definition of new power components, verification testing of new systems, the design and prototyping of test boards and reference designs, development of product collateral such as datasheets and application notes, direct customer support, and the development of tools for enabling customers to architect, simulate, and configure power systems.
• Verifying new power component functionality and performance at a system level
• Creation, definition and verification of tools for facilitating customer designs
• Designing, simulating, prototyping, testing, and optimizing systems using Vicor power components
• Evaluating new products in support of datasheet development
• Development of system and evaluation printed circuit boards for new products
• Troubleshooting, optimizing and supporting customer systems
• Working both independently and as part of a team on various projects
• Developing reference designs and EMI filters to meet requirements in automotive, datacenter, and military markets
• Collaborate with the sales team, field applications engineers, and strategic customers to identify new product requirements, create design requirements specifications and target specification documentation
Education / Qualifications
• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, MSEE a plus
• 10+ experience in power electronics design and/or applications
• experience designing AC-DC, DC-DC power supplies, or designing with AC-DC or DC-DC power components
• Excellent understanding of analog design and an analytical approach to engineering
• Experience simulating power systems a strong plus
• Comfortable with lab equipment used in the characterization and design of power supplies and systems (oscilloscopes, DMMs, Network Analyzers, EMI analyzers, loads, sources, etc.)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, comfortable presenting at a technical level
• Understanding of feedback and control systems, Electromagnetic Interference (EMI), digital (e.g. PIC microcontroller) design, and simulation tools would be a plus
• Familiarity with simulation and design tools (Altium, Cadence Power DC, Simplis/Simetrix, PSPICE, Matlab,)
• Ability to manage projects and work with other departments to meet deadlines and communicate critical design goals
• Experience with PCB layout and EMI filter design
• Experience designing High Voltage DC power systems for military or automotive applications is a plus
• Familiarity with military standards such as MIL-STD461, MIL-STD704, MIL-STD1275 is a plus

Salary Range $121,040 - $151,300 - $196,690
Please note: This range is based on our current market driven pay structures. Individual salaries are determined based upon a variety of factors including but not limited to, a candidates overall qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience as well as company internal equity.
