Job Summary

The Sr. Product Development Engineer is directly responsible for the development of new power components which includes definition, system verification testing and direct customer support as well as development of product datasheets, application notes, demonstration boards, reference designs, simulation models and expert tools. This individual is also a key contributor to the qualification of new power systems. They will collaborate directly with key customers and industry leaders in defining and architecting industry leading power conversion solutions.
 

Job Description

  • Design of printed circuit boards for system testing, customer reference designs and product characterization
  • Designing, simulating, prototyping, and testing circuitry and systems using Vicor power components
  • Developing reference designs and EMI filters to meet requirements in automotive, datacenter, and military markets
  • Verifying new power component functionality and performance at a system level
  • Evaluating and characterizing new products in support of datasheet development
  • Creating Datasheets, Application Notes, training material and other product documentation for customers and Field Applications Engineers
  • Working independently and with other members of the team on various projects involving Vicor Power Components.
  • Development of tools for enabling customers to architect, simulate, and configure power systems
  • Troubleshooting, optimizing and supporting customer systems
  • Supporting corporate New Product Introduction (NPI) efforts
  • Writing complete specifications and working closely with other organizations to insure that new products meet customer and market requirements
     

Education / Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, MSEE a plus
  • 5+  experience in power electronics design and/or applications
  • Experience designing AC-DC, DC-DC power supplies, or designing with AC-DC or DC-DC power components
  • Excellent understanding of analog design and an analytical approach to engineering 
  • Experience simulating power systems a strong plus
  • Comfortable with lab equipment used in the characterization and design of power supplies and systems (oscilloscopes, DMMs, Network Analyzers, EMI analyzers, loads, sources, etc.)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, comfortable presenting at a technical level 
  • Understanding of feedback and control systems, Electromagnetic Interference (EMI), digital design, and simulation tools is a plus
  • Familiarity with simulation and PCB design tools (Altium, Cadence Power DC, Simplis/Simetrix, PSPICE) 
  • Ability to manage projects and work with other departments to meet deadlines and communicate critical design goals
  • Experience with PCB layout and EMI filter design
  • Experience with VR specifications and system design for GPU/CPU core or Memory a plus
  • Willingness to learn and adopt the use of software tools in support of job function required
