Job Description
Work closely with System Engineers on the following types of projects involving power components:
• Design and prototyping of new demonstration boards and reference designs.
• Troubleshooting and optimizing new demonstration boards and reference designs.
• Evaluating and characterizing new Vicor products.
• Generating datasheet and application note laboratory data.
• Researching and testing new circuits and components which work with Vicor power components at a system level.
• Performing system level testing on Power supplies implemented with Vicor power components.
• Troubleshooting and optimizing customer systems which use Vicor power components.
Maintain Product Development laboratory equipment and bench complement, keeping records of calibrations, researching and testing new equipment, and managing the stock of components in the lab.
Maintain and release BOMs (Bill of Material) for new demonstration systems and reference designs and work closely with either a contract manufacturer or operations during the initial build of an applications board.
Build prototype boards and circuits for new systems and perform initial testing and evaluation to validate new designs against the schematic and PCB layout.
Keep accurate records of the results of experiments, troubleshooting and testing performed on the bench and utilize this data to improve the design and utility of the Product Development Engineering tools and products.
Work with significant autonomy to solve problems such as debugging
Work with vendors to acquire equipment and materials
Work with other departments and groups (design engineering, manufacturing engineering, planning dept., sales.
Generate customer-ready reports based on testing they have performed.
Education / Qualifications
Associates degree or 5+ years experience as technician, technical aide, or engineering aide
Familiarity with lab equipment used in the characterization and design of power supplies and systems (oscilloscopes, DMMs, Network Analyzers, EMI analyzers, loads, sources, etc.)
Proficiency soldering small surface mount components with good accuracy and cleanliness. IPC soldering certification (e.g. J-STD-001) a plus.
Proficiency soldering high-current (100A-2000A) connections a plus
Ability to methodically approach tasks and projects, manage time, and document results and procedures with minimal supervision.
Troubleshooting skills with basic power systems a plus.
Familiarity with CAD and office tools (Altium, Excel, Power Point, Word, etc.).

Compensation Data
Salary Range: $67,840- 75,700
Please note: This range is based on our current market driven pay structures. Individual salaries are determined based upon a variety of factors including but not limited to, a candidates overall qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience as well as company internal equity.
